One of Bluegrass Paul’s favorite groups!

I just caught word that the bluegrass super group Lonesome River Band has reunited with several alumnus and are doing a reunion show and also putting out another album soon. That’s good news for bluegrass lovers.

28 years as a band

The Lonesome River Band

That’s an amazing number when it comes to holding a musical group together. I guess for the Lonesome River Band though, they didn’t have to hold the same members together the whole time because they turned out to be the proving grounds for many of today’s top bluegrass pickers. Just as there is a long list of very famous pickers to have played with Bill Monroe’s band, there is a long list of celebrities who developed their chops as a member of the Lonesome River Band. Several of them have reunited as the current edition of the band. You’ve heard of names like Don Rigsby, Dan Tyminski, Kenny Smith, and Rickie Simpkins, no doubt? These and others are all ex-members of the group. We’re talking powerhouse pickers here. The lineup for the reunion will be Don Rigsby, Sammy Shelor, Kenny Smith, and Ronnie Bowman.

The Lonesome River Band soon to release their 14th record!

Folks, if you aren’t familiar with this band, I highly recommend that you seek out any and all of their albums. I own several and I have to say I love them. As a banjo player, I am huge huge fan of the banjo player from this group, Sammy Shelor, and I love his style of picking. So do most others who have heard him.
