‘Atsa Lotsa pasta & bluegrass!

The West Michigan Bluegrass Music Association has begun sponsoring a live band once per week at Pietro’s Italian Restaurant in Grand Rapids. Come on out every Thursday night through May, 2010, and hear one of four great local bands in an intimate setting. You can get some of west Michigan’s best Italian food and listen to good home grown music. We had another great local band at our last gathering, and it was a great show.

Our 15th year as an association is turning out pretty busy!

The West Michigan Bluegrass Music Association turns 15 this year, and we’re quite proud of that. To help celebrate our anniversary, and to further our efforts to promote bluegrass and acoustic music in west Michigan, we’ve taken on an aggressive schedule of monthly events. It’s been a lot of fun to say the least, and we’re really looking forward to the rest of the year.

Part of the festivities for the year include bluegrass night at Pietro’s Italian Restaurant. We’ve had three meetings now, featuring three different bands, all of which are doing a really good job for us. We have four bands in the rotation, each one taking a certain Thursday of the month (see the schedule on our main website at www.wmbma.org) with this past Thursday featuring one of those great bands.

Jonas Ridge did great!

The third Thursday of each month (through April 2010) features the great local band Jonas Ridge. This is a band that I always enjoy watching, and they play nice material done really well. The band is staffed by veterans of the music scene who handle their roles in this band nicely.

Jonas Ridge has been together about two years, and they keep their mix of material interesting and varied. They are super-nice people who are always a joy to work with. The group says that they can be seen at Hobie’s in Lansing about once a month, and various places beyond that. If you get a chance to see this band, you should definitely go out of your way to watch them. You won’t be disappointed. Here’s a video of their first Pietro’s performance:

Be sure and join us for bluegrass and Italian food!

The West Michigan Bluegrass Music Association is trying hard to make this the year that bluegrass is finally put on the map and enjoyed in mainstream west Michigan. If suporting the arts like bluegrass and acoustic music are important to you, we hope you’ll come out and support this event each Thursday. Please leave a comment at the bottom of this blog post and tell us what you think of this event, and please tell us if you have suggestions for other events and venues. See you on Thursday!
