A long standing tradition

Since 1999 there has been a bluegrass/country/acoustic music performance and jam session in Ionia, Michigan, put on by Polly Misner. This event is usually a lot of fun and attracts some great musicians. Polly is a dedicated country/bluegrass fan and she is well known for her hard work in promoting this art form.

This jam session takes place the first Sunday of the month from October through April. Polly hosts the jam at the old historic theater in Ionia. On the big stage you’ll find 30 minute open mic sessions where established groups and scratch bands alike can volunteer to play a short stage show for the ever-appreciative audience. Throughout the hallways of the theater you’ll find pockets of pickers and singers having a whale of a time doing their thing.

Take note: the Dec. jam is moved to the 13th!!

December usually brings an adjusted schedule for the jam due to the holiday, and this month is no exception. I’m writing this blog post on Dec. 8, 2009, and so for this month, Polly is holding the jam and open mic session this coming Sunday, Dec. 13. This means that if you are thinking of attending and would like to come this month, you still can!

Come on down!

Polly invites anyone to come on out to this free (donations accepted) event, no matter if you are a picker/singer or just a listener. There’s a little something for everyone. To find out more, contact Polly via her MySpace page at: http://www.myspace.com/ioniabluegrass

I’d love to hear from you about this. Do you ever attend this jam session? Got any stories from the past? Care to share you experiences with others? We’d all love to hear! That’s all for now folks, and as I always say: pick ‘em if ya got ‘em!
