We’ll be at Zellie’s several times this year…
The West Michigan Bluegrass Music Association holds monthly meetings and events on the third Saturday of the month all throughout the year, and sometimes more than once per month. One of our favorite places to hold our events by far is Zellie’s Opry House.
The monthly meeting for March 2010 was a success!
Zellie’s Opry House is owned by Keith and Terri Grannis and it’s located in Howard City, Mi. Keith and Terri do a marvelous job of tirelessly promoting bluegrass and acoustic music in West Michigan, and they are always very gracious hosts.
The West Michigan Bluegrass Music Association always enjoys getting to hold our events at Zellie’s Opry House. We know the crowd will be big and that the people in the audience will be appreciative. The facility is ideally suited to our needs, with lots of room for jamming!
New this year: the Pass It On Jam Session at our monthly meeting
Karen Siereveld is a lady known to most of us in the West Michigan Acoustic Music scene, and she has gotten to be pretty well-known for leading a jam session aimed at teaching beginners the fine points of bluegrass jamming. Karen holds the Pass It On Jam Session on the last Monday of the month at the Comstock Park public library in Comstock Park, Michigan, and now she even brings this event to the West Michigan Bluegrass Music Association’s monthly meeting. You can find her in one of the downstairs jamming rooms with her group of eager and excited pickers. If you are a beginning jammer, we invite you to come to our meeting and sit in on the jam session. You’ll learn a lot.
Thanks to Uncle Betty and Deadwood Bluegrass
Some of our monthly meetings, which occur on the 3rd Saturday of the month, are combined with a fundraising effort that we call the Hotbands Fundraiser. This is a chance for music lovers to come hear two local groups of pickers and get some great entertainment for a very affordable price: $5.00 per person. In this economy, you can’t beat that price, and it helps out the association. The musicians volunteer their time to help out a good cause, and a great time is usually had by all.
On March 20, 2010, we featured the groups Uncle Betty and Deadwood Bluegrass. Uncle Betty is new on the scene but Deadwood Bluegrass is a perennial favorite in the Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan tri-state area. They came to entertain and that they did. We manage to get some video of the stage performance of both groups and we invite you to watch it here:
Mark your calendar for the 3rd Saturday of the month!
The W.M.B.M.A. counts on your help and support. It makes all the difference in the world when you show up to listen or to jam at our events. We’ll be back to Zellie’s each month through 2010 so we hope to see you there.
We have a calendar of events over at our website, which can be found here: www.wmbma.org. There you’ll find news, information, and our meeting and event schedule. We hope you’ll give us a visit.
While you are in the surfing mood, be sure to also pay Zellie’s Opry House a visit at www.zelliesopryhouse.com. Tell ‘em the West Michigan Bluegrass Music Assocation sent ya!
