Schlitz Creek, the Italian bluegrass band

The West Michigan Bluegrass Music Association has begun sponsoring a live band once per week at Pietro’s Italian Restaurant in Grand Rapids. Come on out every Thursday night through May, 2010, and hear one of four great local bands in an intimate setting. You can get some of west Michigan’s best Italian food and listen to good home grown music. We had the great local band Schlitz Creek in on Thurs., Feb. 11, and it was a great show.

2010 is the year of the West Michigan Bluegrass Music Association!

The W.M.B.M.A. has been making huge strides to be a great organization in the last couple of years, more so than at any other time, and these efforts are evident in the many events and happenings that we are involved in…both scheduled and in the planning stages. You can catch bluegrass happenings sponsored by the W.M.B.M.A. at least once per month throughout this year, sometimes twice! And the Pietro’s event is proving to be a good one.

Schlitz Creek did a great job

The Boys In Bibs”, as Schlitz Creek are sometimes called, are a perennial favorite in the west Michigan area, and we are proud to have them in our lineup for bluegrass at Pietros. This group appears the second Thursday of each month, and they are always a treat to watch perform.

I always get the biggest kick out of some of the great one-liner’s that Schlitz Creek uses, and perhaps my favorite is their tagline that they use to introduce the band: “We’re the Schlitz Creek Bluegrass Band, from the mountains of Kalamazoo, Michigan, where men are men and the sheep are scared!” That one always gets a big laugh, but John and Nick have plenty more that they banter back and forth, trying to get each other’s goat. (Sheep? Goats? Ahem…Trust me, it’s a family show.)

This performance by the band featured an extra treat: they had a young friend named Meghan from the audience join them onstage for a song. Meghan did a great job and she was a real crowd pleaser. Please take a look at the video below for highlights of the evening’s performance, including Meghan’s song:

Make plans to join us each Thursday & watch for our other events

The food at Pietro’s is great, and the venue is just intimate enough to give you a great seat for hearing the music, no matter where you sit. We’ve got all 4 Thursdays of the month covered with great bands that you are sure to enjoy.

Please visit our website at www.wmbma.org to stay abreast of all of the happenings for the association throughout the year. We hop you’ll become a regular and maybe even a card carrying member of the association. Until next time, Bluegrass Paul out!
